Sète (Hérault) accounts for 3.5% of all cruise port calls in France

The Mediterranean cruise market is experiencing remarkable growth. With nearly 6 million passengers expected this year, the Mediterranean basin continues to strengthen its appeal, while French ports are seeing a significant increase in cruise calls.

In the Occitanie region, the ports of Sète and Port-Vendres are benefiting from this momentum while pursuing a strategy aimed at limiting the impacts of mass tourism.

In Sète, growth has been particularly impressive. After welcoming 34,000 cruise passengers in 2025, the port expects to receive nearly 62,000 passengers across 83 cruise calls in 2026.

However, the strategy has evolved. The focus is no longer on accommodating the largest cruise ships or pursuing ambitious growth targets. Instead, the Port of Sète is prioritising smaller vessels that are better suited to the city and its environment.

The objective is to promote a more sustainable cruise industry by welcoming ships equipped to connect to shore power while alongside and by expanding excursion programmes that showcase the region's inland landscapes, vineyards, and cultural heritage.
